Why so many pencils?

You may be asking yourself why do the classrooms need so many pencils! It is amazing how many we use in a school year.

Those pencils are put to good use. Students write and calculate math problems everyday! Imagine how many stories about favorite pets, lost teeth, winning soccer games and poems about mom will be written this year!

Fourth graders will be adding and subtracting numbers in the millions this year. Six digits each times 18 students...we'll do the math.

And why Ticonderoga? This brand is tested and true to quality standards. It sharpens beautifully and provides students with a consistent tool to use in school. Other pencils loose their lead after sharpening. I purchase the electric pencil sharpeners each year for the class. The fancy wrapped pencils tend to jam the electric sharpeners. Although Custodians are happy to help fix the jammed machine, I'd like to avoid the damage.

So, yes, we do ask for many pencils, but rest assured that they are the lifeline to wonderful fourth grade work.
